VMware VIClient “Please specify a valid image file” Error Fix

February 20th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Using VMware Infrastructure Client to manage your VMs? Try mounting a valid CD image and get the following error?

Please specify a valid image... IT IS VALID DAMNIT!

Please specify a valid image file... IT IS VALID DAMNIT!

Here’s what my file looked like:

SW_CD_Windows_XP_Professional_32BIT_English_ISO_MLF_X15-05160.ISO

If you rename your ISO file’s extention to all lowercase, VIClient will now accept it, even with the long filename.

SW_CD_Windows_XP_Professional_32BIT_English_ISO_MLF_X15-05160.iso

There is a bug with the VIClient where it requires the file extention “iso” which is case sensitive.
